About the 2014 Selection

Greetings from steaming Dubai!

The website announcing our official lineup for ANA 2014 is up!

A few of this year’s award-winning films are about the political turmoil agitating the region such as Return to Homs, and the Oscar nominated, Omar and The Square

The other titles tackle themes that transcend the region:
Find out about a little-known group of Armenian scholars who aimed for the moon; closer to earth, a precocious Saudi girl fights hard for a bike; a Kurdish brother hunts his sister across continents with an unlikely companion;  a Moroccan family mourns their father and uncovers deep secrets; female inmates develop their therapy sessions into a play; a bored Spanish expat bonds with a troubled youth through the language of movies; a Lebanese father helps his kids embrace multiculturalism; and two girls in love, one in Jordan and one in Cairo fight family traditions and in the process reveal themselves.

Its a rich selection of Oscar and BAFTA nominees, as well as films that opened Sundance, theToronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).

Some you’ve never seen and others like WadjdaOmar, and The Square have already screened at the Jacob Burns Film Center, but are worthy of a second take in case you missed them the first time around.
