Sherif Nakhla is an Egyptian, born in Boston. He spent his childhood in the US before returning to the Middle East at the age of 10. He graduated with a double major in Theater and Mass Communication from the American University in Cairo.

Upon graduating, Sharif wrote for the culture section of Al-Ahram Weekly, while producing and directing plays on the side.

In 2005, Nakhla left the newspaper and worked for two years at the Tarek Nour Communications Ad agency, before becoming a Sauvé Scholar at McGill University in 2007.

His first work after graduation was a short film called 'Miraculum' on the taboo topic of Muslim/Christian teenage love. In 2009 Nakhla began work on his first feature documentary Les Petits Chats which premiered at Arabian Sights, DC in 2015.
