Mohamed Khan has been one of Egypt's leading film directors since the 1980s, making a string of movies tackling social issues that have often revolved around female central characters.

Born in Cairo in 1942, Khan was educated in Britain before beginning his film career in the Egyptian capital in the 1960s as a script writer.

His first film Darbet Shams (1978) starred Egyptian heartthrob, Nour El Sherif.

His most important works include El Harrif (1984), Zawgat Ragol Mohem (1987), Ahlam Hind we Kamilia (1988), Fares Al-Madina (1991), Ayam El-Sadat (2001), Fi Shaket Masr El Gedeeda (2007).

Three of his films, Zawgat Ragol Mohim, Ahlam Hind we Kamilia and El Harrif were named among the "100 Greatest Arab Films of all time" by the Dubai International Film Festival.
