LAILA MARRAKCHI / ROCK THE CASBAH
Laila Marrakchi was born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1975. She graduated with an M.A. in Film and Video Studies from the University Paris III, and started working as an assistant film director.
In 2001 she made her first short, The Lost Horizon.
Her second film, Marock (2005) a coming of age story about a group of rich upper class Moroccans, proved to be very controversial, but great enough to be screened at the 'Un Certain Regard' section in Cannes.
