JAWAD RAHLIB/WHEN ARABS DANCED
Jawad was born in Morocco in 1965 to Belgian Moroccan parents. He graduated from the Catholic University of Louvain-La-Neuve with a degree in Communications .
Upon graduating, he worked as a journalist before making a career in film. His interest in Human Rights issues made its way into his documentaries. El Ejido, La Loi du Profit (2006) garnered awards including Best Documentary at Fespaco. His next documentary, The Damned of the Sea (2008), won the Public Award at Visions du Réel in Nyon.
His first fiction feature, 7, Rue de la Folie (2013) was selected at Valladolid, Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montréal, and Namur.
