In January 2011, Waad Al-Kataeb, a marketing student at University of Aleppo, taught herself how to film, and started documenting the horrors of Aleppo. in January 2016, Channel 4 News picked up her stories for a series called “Inside Aleppo”. The series won 24 awards, among them the International Emmy for Breaking News.

December 2016, Waad had to evacuate from Aleppo with her husband, Hamza, and two daughters.

She currently lives in London
