KHADAR AYDERUS AHMED / THE GRAVEDIGGER'S WIFE
Born in 1981, writer/director Khadar Ayderus Ahmed is a Finnish filmmaker of Somali descent.
He started his film career as a scriptwriter, co-wroting Citizens (2008) with Juho Kuosmanen. The film received the 2nd prize, Leopard of Tomorrow, at the Locarno Film Festival and Prix Arte at the Premiers Plans Film Festival in Angers.
He also co-wrote Unexpected Journey with director Samuli Valkama, which premiered theatrically across Finland in 2017.
Khader then directed several shorts, including The Night Thief (2017) that made the international film festival rounds.
The Gravedigger's Wife is Ahmed’s first directorial feature. It has won numerous awards including The Golden Stallion of Yennenga at FESPACO 2021, the FIPRESCI Prize for Long Narrative Competition at Luxor African Film Festival 2022, the Amplify Voices Award at the Toronto International Film Festival 2021 and was selected for the Cannes Film Festival 2021 (Critics' Week section).
