THE LEBANESE ROCKET SOCIETY / KHALIL JOREIGE & JOANA HADJI THOMAS

€0.00

At the height of the Cold War, a group of students at the Haigazian University in Beirut set up a rocket club with the ultimate aim of propelling a Lebanese satellite into space.

It made front page news. There was a commemorative postage stamp printed. It nearly provoked an international incident when one of the rockets made it as far across the Mediterranean as Cyprus. Yet little of this is remembered in Lebanon, less still in the wider world.

Tracing the Rocket Society’s leader, Manoug Manougian, to the US, the directors begin to piece together the rise and fall of the Society and attempt to explain why it has since faded from public consciousness.

Directors: Khalil Joreige & Joana Hadjithomas
